Sodium Thiocyanate is white crystal or powder, soluble in water, Sodium Thiocyanate relative density is 1.735g/cm3. Melting point 287 ℃. It is easy to deliquesce in the air and produce toxic gas in case of acid. Soluble in water, ethanol, acetone and other solvents. The aqueous solution is neutral, forms bloody iron thiocyanate with iron salt, does not react with ferrous salt, forms yellow sodium bisulfate with concentrated sulfuric acid, forms dark blue cobalt thiocyanate with cobalt salt, and forms white silver thiocyanate precipitation or black copper thiocyanate precipitation with silver salt or copper salt.Its Molecular Formula is CNNaS and its Molecular weight is 81.07. and CAS number is 540-72-7. Sodium thiocyanate is used as polypropylene fiber drawing solvent, which is widely used in medicine, printing and dyeing, rubber, nickel plating, color film, pesticide and other industrial applications. Sodium thiocyanate is used as polyacrylonitrile fiber drawing solvent, chemical analysis reagent, color film developing agent, some plant defoliation agent, and airport road herbicide. It is also used in pharmacy, printing and dyeing, rubber treatment, black nickel plating and the manufacture of artificial mustard oil. Sodium thiocyanate is used as color film developing agent, defoliating agent for some plants, mold inhibiting preservative for pharmaceutical, printing and dyeing, rubber treatment, black nickel plating and so on. Gb2760-2001 stipulates that it can be used with hydrogen peroxide for the preservation of raw milk. Sodium thiocyanate is used as an analytical reagent, such as the determination of niobium in iron and steel, the determination of silver, copper and iron, and the manufacture of organic thiocyanate.
