The mechanism of action of aminoguanidine and its application in chronic complications of diabetes mellitus

Aminoguanidine compounds mainly prevent and treat chronic complications of diabetes in the following three ways:
(1) Inhibit the formation of non-enzymatic glycation end products of long-lived proteins;
(2) Inhibition of aldose reducing activity;
(3) Inhibit the activity of nitric oxide synthase.
Aminoguanidine has significant curative effect on prevention and treatment of diabetic macrovascular complications, diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy and neuropathy.
